Scripture of The Day

If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: `Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. ‘ ”  Matthew 4:3

I will never forget when reading the Gospels I read about Jesus being tempted in the wilderness.  I think this was actually my first revelation from God’s Word.  In the book of Matthew the devil actually tries to plant doubt into the mind of Jesus.  “If you are the Son of God. . . .”  He does it twice!  Then he tries to get Jesus to bow down before him and worship him!  The enemy really has the nerve to tempt Jesus!  Don’t you know that the devil knew exactly who Jesus was.  But every time Jesus came back with, “It is written. . .”   I remember saying to myself, “That devil is such a liar.  He knows who Jesus is.”  At that time I felt that the Holy Spirit was opening my eyes to spiritual warfare.

Don’t you know that the word,” if ” can many times be used by the enemy to cause you to doubt and question God’s Word?  He may even use “if” to cause you to question yourself.  We know that Faith is what pleases God., therefore we must trust Him and move on what He says to do.

In the Gospel, we see how the devil tempted Jesus three times in the desert immediately prior to the start of His public ministry. These temptations were those of bread, power, and worldly recognition. Now then, why would the devil tempt Jesus to worship him when he did not even get Him to break His fast?  He hasn’t changed his tactics.  He uses  the same tricks on you and I.  Do not allow doubt and unbelief to cause you to back up, shut up, or sit down when God is telling you to stand up and go forth.  Watch the word “if” in your life and shut the door to doubt and unbelief.
