Scripture for the Day (January 28, 2016)
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: (Deuteronomy 30:19)
The more I read Proverbs the more I see this “Constant Cry” from God (depicted as Wisdom). The cry is to all humanity to turn to wisdom (God) versus the great harlot (Satan). It is a picture of a constant spiritual battle between light and darkness, truth and lies, Heaven and Hell.
God’s way is depicted as a banquet that has already been prepared. All things are ready. Everyone is invited. All you have to do is turn from the way of the harlot and accept God’s invitation to dine at His table.
Wisdom has built her house; she has carved its seven columns. She has prepared a great banquet, mixed the wines, and set the table. She has sent her servants to invite everyone to come. She calls out from the heights overlooking the city. “Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says,“Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment. (Proverbs 9:1-6, NLT)
I can remember that I was not the best student in high school. I had some great teachers and I could have learned a lot more if I had just listened, especially to my English instructors. But my attitude back then was all wrong. I was not interested in learning proper sentence structure and grammar. I did not see any use for that type of thing. I was the typical teenager that thought he knew everything. Boy, was I wrong!
Proverbs 9 deals a lot with this type attitude. Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning (Proverbs 9:8-9). A wise man does not reject or turn away from the “Constant Cry”. He runs toward it and embraces it. He is constantly learning as a student of the Most High. He searches for wisdom as for gold and silver. He hungers and thirsts after the things of God. He relishes the anointing of God.
There are promises that go with his type attitude and heart: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased (Proverbs 9:10-11). How valuable is the addition of days and years to your life on this earth?
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him (James 1:5).
