Scripture for the Day (May 19, 2015)
Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness, and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (II Peter 1:5-8, NASB)
Sometimes a picture, or an event, can better depict and describe how a mature Christian should act, and what brotherly kindness and love looks like, compared to a multitude of words. Sometimes it is hard to visualize how faith, diligence, moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love all fit together. The following is a description of one such event and picture that was written about by David Wilson of the Bradenton FL Herald on May 16, 2015 and partially reprinted here.
Tim Tebow recently spoke at a fund raiser for the Manatee Salvation Army. He shared a lot about his football experiences in college and the NFL but he ended the night on a more personal note which is described in the Bradenton Herald as follows:
He capped his night, though, by telling a story away from the football field, from one of his trips to the Philippines, where he was born and where he opened a children’s hospital last month. He was visiting a school and said he noticed three children who were in another room, missing out on the chance to meet the athlete. Tebow approached them and said he realized one of the children’s feet were backward. The school, Tebow said, was ashamed of the disabled child, Sherwin, and wouldn’t let him meet Tebow. Sherwin’s friends, whose kindness touched Tebow, stayed in the other room with the boy rather than meeting one of their country’s most famous athletes. Tebow spent some time with the three boys and when he left, he told Sherwin he couldn’t wait to meet him again in heaven.”I can’t wait.” Tebow recalled Sherwin saying to him, “to run with you in heaven.”
That is a picture that speaks louder than words!
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-23, NASB)
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. (Colossians 3:12, NASB)
And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. (Psalm 1:3)
