Scripture for the Day – February 21, 2020

Colossians 1:9-12: For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; 12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

The scripture above is a prayer that Paul prayed for the church (the saints, the body of Christ) at Colossae. Well, if you are a Christian, you are part of the body, so this prayer is for you as well. I like praying it in the first person, so then I’m praying it for myself and sometimes I will put other people’s names in it to pray it for them.

Here it is in the first person: For this reason, since the day I heard it, I do not cease to pray, and to ask that I may be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that I may walk worthy of you Lord, fully pleasing You, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to Your glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy; giving thanks to You Father who has qualified me to be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints in the light.

There are six things that are prayed for in this prayer: 1) That I may be filled with the knowledge of Your will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. 2) That I might walk worthy of You, Lord, fully pleasing You. 3) Being fruitful in every good work 4) Increasing in the knowledge of God 5) Strengthened with all might according to His glorious power 6) Strengthened for all patience and longsuffering with joy.

I have prayed this prayer for many years and I have seen the results of this prayer in my own life and in the lives of others for whom I have prayed it.

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. (James 5:16)

The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous. (Proverbs 15:29)
