Scripture for the Day

John 15:7: If you abide in me and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire and it will be done for you.

We see in Genesis 18:22-33, where Abraham is praying for Sodom and asking God to spare the city if there were 50 righteous and God agreed. Then Abraham asked for 45, then 40, then 30, then 20, and then 10. If Abraham would have gotten down to one, I believe God would have spared Sodom. God kept giving in to what Abraham asked. He never said no!

I John 5:14-15: Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”

Mark 11:23-24: For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.”

Isaiah 43:26: Put me in remembrance; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right.

Jeremiah 1:12: Then the LORD said to me, “You have seen well, for I am ready to perform My word.”

Yet another incident where God did exactly what the people asked was in I Samuel 8. God had told Israel that He didn’t want them to have a king. But they demanded a King, and they got one. Even though God didn’t want that for them, He gave them a King! These last two examples were under the Old Covenant; but, we have a New Covenant, a better covenant based on better promises (Hebrews 8:6). In other words, if you’re a child of God (a Christian) and you know the Word (the promises of God), you can ask according to the scriptures believing, and it shall be done.
