Scripture of The Day
“Be on your guard; stand firm in your faith; be courageous; be strong. Let everything you do be done in love.” 1 Corinthians 16:13-14
Scripture warns us to guard our hearts above everything else. (Proverbs 4:23) We guard our hearts by filling our minds with God’s Word regularly, proactively filtering what our mind consumes, and by praying for wisdom and help from God. (2 Peter 1:2, Philippians 4:6-7) We can all attest to the crazy times we live in. So many things seem to be upside down and backward. We know we have an enemy and according to 1 Peter 5: 8-9, Your enemy, the devil, is like a roaring lion, sneaking around to find someone to attack.
But here is the good news, we have everything we need to win the battles. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” NIV “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.: NASB “Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”
Not only do we have armor, we have a helper, the Holy Spirit. He leads, guides, gives wisdom, has gifts, and He is powerful! The Lord means for us to guard our hearts by filtering our emotions, desires, thoughts, and responses through His Word. He is the watchman that protects our souls. And what’s his primary means of defense? The sword of Scripture.
I encourage you today, to pay attention. Put your armor on. We need to be aware of what we say and do because, over time, our thoughts and actions shape the status of our hearts.
You’ve got this and God’s got you!!
