Scripture of The Day
” Of course we wouldn’t dare to put ourselves in the same class or compare ourselves with those who rate themselves so highly. They compare themselves with one another and make up their own standards to measure themselves by, and then they judge themselves by their standards. What self-delusion!” (2 Corinthians 10:12) The Passion Bible
The word compare means, to liken, to examine for similarities or differences. To examine the relations of things to each other. We are all guilty of comparing ourselves, our gifts and talents, our businesses, and our looks with those around us, or those we hold in high esteem. I can remember I wanted to be like Amy Grant. I wanted to sing just like her. There is nothing wrong with checking out how others are doing and rejoicing with them and their success. But when we compare ourselves with others and try to measure up to their standards we are in dangerous territory.
We women are the worst at this. We compare ourselves with other women, how they look, the color of their hair, how they dress, and the shoes they wear. I heard a testimony by Sarah Jakes Roberts who shared how she fell into this trap as she was asked to join The Women of Faith tour. She said she began to compare herself with all the other speakers and felt so insecure.
Comparing ourselves with others can be so dangerous. The devil wants to get you off your game and see all of your disabilities instead of your possibilities. He wants us insecure. This is why we must know who we are and whose we are. We are accountable for our actions. Galatians 6:4-5 says, “Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others. Assume your own responsibility.” The Message.
Don’t compare yourself with others. The bottom line is, Jesus is our measuring stick. Not the world, other people in our lives, or the people at work. Walk by faith, walk in integrity, walk in truth. God honors His word. You were made one of a kind you need not compare to anything or anyone. God created you very special.
