Scripture for the Day (September 7, 2016)

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)

I just can’t seem to get away from this theme of “Getting Low.” I was reading the accounts in Matthew, Mark, and Luke where Jesus had told His disciples to get into a boat and they were to go to the other side of the lake. About halfway across the lake a terrible storm arose and it was about to sink the boat. The disciples were all freaking out while Jesus slept in the rear of the boat on a pillow. Jesus was awakened by the disciples and He immediately rebuked the wind and the storm and at the same time He rebuked the disciples for their lack of faith.

There are a lot of lessons to learn from this story but the one lesson I want us to concentrate on is what happened when they arrived at their destination (which was the whole purpose of crossing the lake). On the other side was a man possessed by many demons. This man lived in the tombs and could not be bound by anyone. Every time they tried to bind him with chains he would break the chains. He ran around naked and crazy and continuously cut himself with rocks. Can you just imagine having a face-to-face encounter with this demon possessed crazy man?

What I want you to pay attention to is how this demon possessed naked wild man reacted when he met Jesus. Listen to what the scripture says:

When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before Him, and with a loud voice said, “What have I to do with Thee, Jesus, Thou Son of God Most High? I beseech Thee, torment me not!” (Luke 8:28)

Even the demons “Get Low” in the presence of Jesus. They know He is the Son of God and they know that they have to bow their knee to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well. The devils also believe — and tremble. (James 2:19)

The way I see this is Jesus had His disciples in the School of Faith. That school is still going on today for you and I and it involves mostly OJT (On the Job Training). Jesus was showing His disciples first hand that they had authority over the elements and demons if they just had faith. You have to know what your authority is when you face these type situations.

For three devotionals we have talked about “Getting Low” before God and before the people you minister to. I want you to also realize that at the same time you are “Getting Low” before God you can “Stand Tall” before the enemy. No fear! No backing down or negotiating! Just straight out authority!!

Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. (Luke 9:1-2)

Just remember, you are His disciple. The same authority and power that was given to the original twelve has been given to you. Believe it, and Use it!!
