A Nugget from New Life Network
(excerpts from Dr. Larry Ollison)
Scripture for the Day (October 25, 2016)
Then He said to them, Pay attention to what you hear. By your own standard of measurement [that is, to the extent that you study spiritual truth and apply godly wisdom] it will be measured to you [and you will be given even greater ability to respond]—and more will be given to you besides. (Mark 4:24, Amplified Bible)
We automatically measure everything we hear. When you take notes in church or at business lectures, you judge every statement made by the speaker and only write down what you judge to be worthy. I’ve noticed in church that as people take notes, not everyone will take notes at the same time. That’s because not everyone is valuing the words with the same measure. What’s important to one person may not be so important to someone else.
The measure that you use and the judgment that you place on the value of what you hear determines what will eventually get into your heart. What is in your heart will be spoken and what is in your heart will be revealed in your spiritual walk with the Lord. Everything one hears in a biblical teaching should be measured by the Word of God and by His standard.
Some people have a very different measuring device. I recently saw a young boy with multiple piercings on his face. His lips and tongue had so much metal that he would have to make it a point to avoid magnets. His hair was multi-colored and came to multiple points. His cut-off jeans still reached his ankles because his belt line had slipped so low that his underwear was exposed. His torn T-shirt was for someone twice his size. What is even more astonishing than the way this boy looked is a comment that I heard from another youth standing nearby. After observing the metal-studded, mis-dressed young man, the second boy said, “Cool!” He obviously didn’t measure “cool” with the same standard that I measure cool. Different generation!!!
The Bible says to take heed (pay attention) to what you hear and it goes on to say we must measure the words that we hear properly. Compare what you hear with scripture! Test the spirits! Don’t just automatically receive everything you hear, especially when it comes to biblical teachings.
Satan knows the Word (the Truth) also and he guards it with multiple bodyguards of lies to try to keep you away from it. It is our responsibility to recognize the lies and be able to discern, receive and get to the truth. The Holy Spirit will help you but He can only access the Word that you have put in. If you have put the Word in, the Holy Spirit will bring to your remembrance everything you have need of. He is your Helper!!!
