Scripture for the Day (October 31, 2016)
The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. (Psalm 119:130)
The Amplified says, The entrance and unfolding of your words give light; their unfolding gives understanding (discernment and comprehension) to the simple {seducible}.
Several years ago I was trying to help someone who was hooked on drugs. I was always telling the person he needed to get off drugs and change his life. But it seemed like the more I talked to him like that the worse he became. One day a good friend of mine shared with me that I needed to quit telling this person to get off drugs and change his life. I needed to begin to share the Word of God with him. The Word of God is the agent of change.
He explained it like this. It’s like the person that’s hooked on drugs is in this dark room and he can’t get out because he can’t see anything and all you keep doing is telling him to get out of the room. But he can’t even see the doorknob to open the door. You keep telling him to get out of the room, and he’s yelling back, “But I can’t see, I need someone to turn on the light”. This helped me to see that if I would just give this person the Word of God, I could help him change. The Word of God, which is the light of God, would allow him to see and then open the door to change. Thank God, that young man is walking in the light of God’s Word today.
Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.”
God’s Word is light that reveals (brings revelation, understanding) to our hearts (spirits).
II Corinthians 4:4 says, “In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” Satan (god of this world) wants to keep us from the Word (The Light) because he knows it’s the truth that reveals his lies and it will make us free (John 8:32).
Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:18, “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
The Amplified Bible says, “By having the eyes of your heart flooded with light, so that you can know and understand the hope to which He has called you, and how rich is His glorious inheritance in the saints (His set-apart ones)”.
God has given you the truth (the light) to shine so people in darkness can find their way.
Matthew 5:14-16 says, “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
