Scripture for the Day (November 3, 2016)
Exodus 15:26 says, “If you will diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD your God, and will do that which is right in his sight, and will give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon you, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that heals you.“
The “Scripture for the Day” is referred to by some as the Old Testament Divine Healing Covenant. It is called a covenant because in it God promises He will keep His people free from diseases, and diligent obedience is the only condition God requires.
Hebrews 8:6 says “But now He (Jesus) has obtained a more excellent ministry, in as much as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.”
It sounded like they had it pretty good under the Old Covenant as long as they obeyed God. But thanks be to God we are under a New Covenant, a better covenant based on better promises. I hear teaching where people say that the healing ministry ended when the last apostle died. But the apostles weren’t the healer. God is the healer, and He lives inside us under the New Covenant. Think of it this way, if healing isn’t available under the New Covenant we would have been better off staying under the Old Covenant. But no, we have a better covenant.
Acts 10:38 says “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about
doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil….” This verse tells us that those Jesus healed were oppressed of the devil. So Jesus is the healer, and Satan is the oppressor.
I John 3:8 says “For this purpose the Son of God (Jesus, the mediator of the New Covenant) was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.”
I Peter 2:24 says “by His (Jesus) stripes you were healed.”
In Mark 16:15-18 Jesus gives the “Great Commission” to His disciples. And He said to them, “Go into the entire world and preach the gospel (good news of the New Covenant) to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” It’s our job to preach the gospel (good news to a sick man is you can be healed) and lay hands on the sick!
Somebody might say,” What if they don’t get healed?” Everyone I lay hands on doesn’t get healed anymore than everyone I present the gospel to doesn’t get saved. But I’m not going to quit preaching the gospel. I am going to keep obeying the Holy Spirit. Under the Old Covenant obedience to God’s Laws was required to walk in the blessing. Under the New Covenant obedience to walk after the Holy Spirit within brings the blessing!
Let’ start doing our job by obeying. I guarantee you this! If you pray for 100 people, and only one gets healed, it will be worth it all, to you and to them.
