Scripture for the Day (November 16, 2016)
For we walk by faith, not by sight: (2 Corinthians 5:7)
What does it really mean to walk by faith? Does it mean that we believe in Jesus Christ and attend church on a regular basis? Does it mean that we are members of a denominational church and therefore we can call ourselves a Baptist, Methodist, etc.? What does it really mean?
There are several outstanding examples in the Bible that give us great pictures of walking by faith. Abraham, who is known as the father of faith, is a prime example. By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should later receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. (Hebrews 11:8)
Let me ask you a question. Have you ever made a major move based solely on a Word from God?
Elijah is another great example of someone who walked by faith. And the word of the Lord came unto him, saying, Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there. So he went and did according unto the word of the Lord: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan. And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook. (1 Kings 17:2-6)
The point that I am trying to make here is that walking by faith is more than just belonging to a church or believing in Jesus. It is hearing God’s voice and going and doing what God has instructed you to do. Some may tell you that God does not speak to us like He did to Abraham and Elijah. Wrong!!! He is the same yesterday, today and forever. He is still speaking to His people. We are either not listening or we are too wrapped up in our own stuff that we cannot even imagine dropping everything and following Him. We write God off because we cannot make it work in our minds. We look at our finances and cannot see how in the world we could make it if we did what He asked.
I can tell you this from our own personal experience after years in the ministry. Every move we have made in the last 34 years has been on the basis of what the Holy Spirit has told us to do. Some may think that to be strange, but we think it to be normal. God said He would be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). He is not a man to lie. He will do it. We just have to have enough faith to walk it out. We live in a time when we think everything has to make intellectual sense. That is not faith! God wants you to trust Him. He has never let us down and He will never let you down if you will just step out on faith and do whatever He calls you to do. That is where the miracles are, that is where the supernatural provision is, and that is where your inheritance is.
