Scripture for the Day (December 2, 2016)
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
In my seventy plus years of living on this earth I have been fortunate to have witnessed true leadership at many different levels. I’ve seen it through my teachers in high school and college. I’ve seen it through my commissioned and non-commissioned officers while serving in the military. I’ve seen it through my supervisors in various jobs. I’ve seen it through Pastors and ministry leaders. I’ve seen it through entrepreneurs and business owners where we have served as Chaplains. It is truly amazing to me what a true leader can accomplish.
It is my opinion that the gift of true leadership has been sorely lacking in our country for many years now. It’s almost like we have forgotten how to even recognize it, even if it is right in our midst. Leaders change the atmosphere of a room. Leaders spark hope. Leaders will push you to levels you never thought possible. Leaders are usually plain spoken and at times will say things that appear to be outlandish but their words will get you thinking outside the box.
There was no better leader than Jesus and He said some things that His disciples had a hard time with. The following is just one example:
He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. (John 6:56)
His disciples responded to this as follows: Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? (John 6:60)
Listen, the Word of God will always offend your mind before it reaches your spirit. It will always stretch your belief system to believe things you never understood and never thought possible. It will open your eyes to new possibilities. It will spark hope in you. It will build faith. That is also what a true leader does.
I encourage you to pray for our country today. I believe we stand at a historic crossroads for the United States of America. New leadership is being birthed and put in place. It has been here all along but has not been recognized or honored. Blindfolds are coming off. Scales on eyes are being removed.
It is time for hope to arise. It is time for this country to be all that God has called us to be. We can do that if we pray for our leaders and ask God to help us and surround our leaders with wisdom and protection.
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. (Joshua 1:8-9)
