Scripture for the Day (January 9, 2017)
Therefore with joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. (Isaiah 12:3)
Joy is like a pail or bucket with which we can use to dip up water from the wells of salvation. To get a clearer understanding of this verse we need to look at what wells of salvation means. The Hebrew word (Old Testament) for salvation is yshuwah which means deliverance, aid, victory, prosperity, health, help and welfare. That’s JESUS! The Greek word (New Testament) for salvation is soteria which means deliverance, preservation, soundness, prosperity, happiness, rescue, and general well being.
If it is with joy that we draw from the wells of salvation then we need to make sure we hold onto joy and not let go. How do we continue to hold onto joy? We do it by worshiping God and by reading, studying, hearing, confessing, and doing the Word of God.
Psalm 16:11 says, “You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy;
John 15:11 says, “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”
You pray with joy:
Job 33:26 says, “He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him, He shall see His face with joy” and Philippians 1:4 says, “In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy”
You worship with joy:
Luke 24:52 says, “And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy,”
You go through trials with joy:
James 1:2-4 says, My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
And you will finish your race with joy:
Acts 20:24 says, “Nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy.” Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” The Message Bible says, “Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever. And now he’s there, in the place of honor, right alongside God.”
