A Nugget from New Life Network
Scripture for the Day (February 20, 2017)
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. (Luke
6:38)
Most of you have probably heard of the terrible storms that devastated Albany, GA (our hometown) on two different occasions in January. Thank God we were not harmed nor did we have any property damage, but many people were. Many lost their lives and the property damage is in the hundreds of millions of dollars. It is impossible to adequately describe the destruction. We have attached a few pictures of some of the damage but believe me; these pictures don’t do justice to showing the entire devastation this tornado and associated winds caused.
Many people have come to help including Franklin Graham’s Samaritan’s Purse, The 700 Club’s Operation Blessing, The Red Cross, and many, many more. Local churches and ministries are also heavily involved, but the fact is, much, much more is needed.
We preached at New Birth Fellowship Church this Sunday at the request of Pastor L. B. Gardner. This was a great honor for us. This is a large African American church that is located in the Radium Springs area of Albany which was the area heaviest hit by the storms. Some of their members lost everything. One man, who is a US Marine, and head of their deacon board, lost his home. He told us that when he went back to his home, which was totally destroyed, he took a US Marine flag with him and stuck it in the ground in the midst of his leveled home. His two sons asked him why he did that and he told them that the enemy may have won this battle but he was not going to win the war and that is what that flag signified. Just coincidentally, we preached on “Standing Strong in the Midst of Tragedy” and that is one of the phrases we used which reinforced this father’s message to his sons.
We would encourage everyone to give to the relief efforts in Albany. You can give through one of the three major organizations listed above or you can give to New Life Network and mark it US Marine. We would like to personally help this particular Marine. He did have home insurance but they have already told him that it will not cover the total costs necessary to rebuild his home. It would be really nice if we could help him rebuild!
