Scripture for the Day (April 24, 2017)

Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: (Philippians 2:3-7)

Do you remember when you were growing up, did something really stupid, and one of your parents asked you, “Have you lost your ever loving mind?” I heard a sermon Sunday about losing our mind and it was really good. This sermon fit in so perfectly with what we have been trying to teach for several weeks on the importance of hearing God’s voice.

Yes, it is important to study to show yourself approved. Yes, it is important to know the Word of God and renew your mind with the Word. But, it’s even more important to lose our mind and replace it with the Mind of Christ if we ever want to see the miracle working power of God manifest in and through our lives. Our scripture for the day says, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.” That means we have a choice. We can let it be, or not let it be. It’s our choice.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. (Romans 8:7)

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. (Isaiah 55:8)

Do you recall in the scriptures how Jesus would often go off by himself and pray? Why did He need to do that? He was the Word of God made flesh. He knew God’s Word better than anyone alive. Why did He need to ask the Father for guidance? Here is the reason. He was fully human while on this earth and He was restricted to operating in the exact same way we are restricted. The big difference between Jesus and us is that He refused to do anything or say anything unless He saw the Father doing it or heard the Father saying it. The big question is, do we try to fight our battles, and plan our moves, with what we have read versus with what God has said (there is a big difference)?

Sometimes we need to go back to the very beginning to see what the original plan of God was. And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. (Genesis 2:7) In the beginning God and man were face to face and they walked and talked together in the Garden. God still wants to do that. He still wants to do great and mighty things through us but we have to be willing to get face to face with God and listen.
