Scripture for the Day (May 5, 2017)

Psalm 119:11 says, “Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

To hide God’s Word in your heart requires spending time in His Word on a consistent basis. Listen to what God’s Word has to say about this subject.

Proverbs 4:20-22 says “My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.”

Acts 17:11, in speaking of the ministry of Paul and Silas in Berea says, “They received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily.”

Psalm 119:147-148 says, “I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, that I may meditate on Your word.”

Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.”

Someone may say, “I’ve read my Bible before and I can remember some verses. I don’t have to read and study every day.” I heard it put like this once, “The memory of God’s Word can’t nourish your spirit anymore than the memory of food can nourish your body.” Someone may say, “But I don’t understand the Bible when I read it.” There again, I heard it said, “The Bible is so deep that the most experienced diver will never get to the bottom of it, but so shallow that a child will not drown in it.”

I have been reading the Bible for over 35 years and I am just now understanding things that I never did before. The Word of God is alive and full of hidden treasures that can only be revealed by the Holy Spirit. For that revelation to happen requires us to personally be in the Word. We cannot delegate that responsibility to another person like our local Pastor. It requires a personal hunger and a personal thirst for God. It requires a personal seeking and knocking.

We encourage you to pray and spend time in God’s Word every day. If you need help finding a good Bible that you can understand, call us, we can help.
