Scripture for the Day (May 16, 2017)
And He changeth the times and the seasons; He removeth kings and setteth up kings. He giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. (Daniel 2:21)
We are living in a time and place where we are facing challenges from without and from within. Our political parties are at war with each other. Who in the world would even want to serve as a future leader in this type environment of personal destruction? Our foreign enemies are trying to build atomic bombs and create the ability to deliver them long range against us and our allies. Cyber warriors are penetrating our most sensitive computer systems. Our media has become a propaganda machine which makes it almost impossible to trust them anymore. How did we get into this mess?
We can argue the politics all day long, but that is not the reason we are in this mess. We can argue about the people we have elected to lead our nation, but that is not the reason either. The reason is that we have slowly and steadily walked away from God. We have removed prayer and teaching of the Bible in our schools. We have taken down the Word of God from our governmental buildings. We have enacted laws that are directly opposed to the scriptures. King David talked about the result of such actions in Psalms:
He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made. (Psalm 7:15)
We have failed to recognize, or refused to accept, that it is God that promotes and not man. Therefore, when we try to tear down what God has established we are not at war with that elected leader but we are at war with God.
I said to the arrogant and boastful, Deal not arrogantly [do not boast]; and to the wicked, Lift not up the horn [of personal aggrandizement]. Lift not up your [aggressive] horn on high, speak not with a stiff neck and insolent arrogance. For not from the east nor from the west nor from the south come promotion and lifting up. But God is the Judge! He puts down one and lifts up another. (Psalm 75:4-7, AMPC)
However, there is still hope! We have to turn from our wicked ways and ask God to forgive us. We need to repent. We have become so arrogant, and so impressed with ourselves, that we think we don’t need God anymore. What we need is a good dose of the Holy Ghost. We need to return to our roots and first love. We need a revival!!!
We also need to start praying for our elected leaders rather than bashing and second guessing them at every turn.
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; (1 Timothy 1-3)
