Scripture for the Day (May 25, 2017)

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. (Isaiah 35:8-10)

My wife and I started our ministry in 1982 in Memphis, TN. The foundational scripture the Lord gave us was Isaiah 35 and we incorporated our first ministry as High-Way Ministry, Inc. based on that scripture. I often refer back to that scripture as sort of a reminder of what God called us to do. One of the key points that God pointed out to us was that He had a highway for us to travel on. This highway was not only a literal highway but a High-Way because His ways are higher than our ways. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9)

We have travelled many miles on different highways since 1982 and ministered in many different places including churches of all types, prisons, outdoor arenas, foreign countries, and business venues. God was right about us being on a lot of literal highways, but that is not all He was telling us.

Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual. (1 Corinthians 15:46)

For you and I to get the real revelation of what God wants to show us we need to be able to see and hear through the Spirit. God is a Spirit and we must not only worship Him in Spirit but we must be able to discern His Word through the Spirit. We cannot do that in the natural.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

If you just read God’s word in the natural, you will be travelling on what I call the Low-Way. It’s not that the Low-Way is always wrong, it’s just very limited in power and not God’s best. Reading some scripture solely in the natural can lead to legalism and “letter of the law” type teachings which is not good. When I first read Isaiah 35 I heard God say that He has a High-Way, not just a highway, because His ways are higher than our ways. This is a spiritual highway where the redeemed can walk. No lion or ravenous beasts (demonic forces) will be allowed there. It was not just that we were going to be travelling the highways of the world for the Lord (which was true) but that there was a spiritual High-Way, a place of growth and maturity, a place of spiritual authority and power, that God wanted to take us to. We are still on that road and we will not ultimately arrive until we see Him face to face.

What highway are you on?
