Scripture for the Day (June 2, 2017)
And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (Matthew 19:4-6)
On Saturday, June 3, 2017, my wife Cheryl and I will celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary! Boy, the time has flown by so fast. It just seems like yesterday when we met in Atlanta, GA and started dating. I was working as a postal clerk in Decatur, GA and she was working as a fashion coordinator with Sears and doing modeling jobs on the side.
I will never forget that the first modeling type job I attended with her was at an Elks Club one night where part of her routine was to dance on a table as a go-go dancer. We have come a long way since then, from dancing on tables and sorting mail to preaching the Gospel. You can’t tell me God doesn’t do miracles.
We have seen and experienced a lot in the last 50 years. We have had the honor to have been in two great churches that were led by two great Pastor couples (Fred and Valerie Bennett in Collierville, TN and Paul and Sharon Zink in Jacksonville, FL). We learned a lot in those churches as we watched true men and women of God. These two couples always encouraged us to go and never held us back from what we felt God had called us to do. Thank you Fred and Valerie and Paul and Sharon for your guidance.
We have witnessed over 100 thousand people give their lives to the Lord over the last 35 years of ministry. We have seen people healed from major diseases and people delivered from demonic forces. We have participated in two city-wide revivals where we saw the anointing of God come in like a flood and change entire communities. We’ve ministered in prisons, churches and several foreign countries. It has been an adventure.
We’ve had the opportunity to work in the business arena with Brig and Lita Hart for 28 years and see things happen that we would have never seen unless we were obedient to follow God into an arena that we did not even think God cared about. Thank you Brig and Lita for showing us that God can work in a mighty way in the business arena when we let Him.
Most of all I want to thank my wife Cheryl for her faithfulness and love of the Lord. She dedicated her life to the Lord in 1978, four years before I did. It was the changes in her that drew me to the Lord. There is no telling where I would be today if I had not been married to her.
Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord. (Proverbs 18:22)
I was riding through the Georgia countryside the other day in my truck thinking about all these things and just thanking God for everything we had experienced. I thanked Him for everything we had seen and told Him we were ready to do whatever He wanted us to do. I also told Him if it was time for us to retire we would do that. The minute that I prayed that a song came on my truck radio that said “It Ain’t Over Yet”. The next Sunday in church our Pastor stopped at one point in his sermon and said somebody is thinking about spiritual retirement. God said to tell you it’s not over yet. So, this is not a resignation letter because it’s not over yet. God still has something left for us to accomplish.
Thank you Lord for all that you have shown us and thank you for all that you have left to show us. We will rejoice and be glad in it!
Happy Anniversary Cheryl. I love you!!! More than yesterday, Less than tomorrow!!!
