Scripture for the Day (July 13, 2017)
Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. (Mark 11:24)
As we read through Chapter 6 of the Gospel of John, as well as many other chapters in the Gospels, we see continuing accounts of murmurings and questionings of who Jesus was. The Jews then murmured at him, because he said, I am the bread which came down from heaven. And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how is it then that he saith, I came down from heaven? (John 6:41-42) All kinds of religious and intellectual arguments were made to convince people that Jesus was not who He said He was. It was actually an all-out attack on man’s belief system.
That same attack on our belief system is still going on today. It’s because the simple act of believing is the most powerful tool mankind possesses. It is the doorway to salvation. It is the entrance way to the miraculous. It is the opening to spiritual gifts. It is the revealing of who we really are, who we belong to, and what we are here for. None of that is possible without believing.
Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. (Mark 9:23)
They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?] Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]. (John 6:28-29, Amplified Bible, AMPC)
We recently listened to a teaching by Pastor Robert Morris entitled a “The Pure Language”. This message includes his personal testimony on being baptized in the Holy Spirit and is one of the best we have ever heard. One of the things he touched on during this message is how he, because of his religious upbringing, had strongholds in his mind that kept him from believing when he read certain scriptures. His point was that when we read the Bible, and something wells-up inside of us against a scripture, we need to examine ourselves. Reading the Bible should not make us afraid or angry. What’s really happening is your belief system is being attacked and it is probably due to some wrong teaching that you have received. The enemy is not stupid. He knows that all things are possible to those that believe and he is going to try his best to plant doubt and unbelief into your heart and mind about the Word of God.
