Scripture or the Day (May 19, 2016)
A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved. (Proverbs 12:3)
Mark 4:3-6 says, Listen! Behold, a sower went out to sow. And it happened, as he sowed, that some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds of the air came and devoured it. Some fell on stony ground, where it did not have much earth; and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of earth. But when the sun was up it was scorched, and because it had no root it withered away.
In this story, that is known as the “Parable of the Sower”, I want to focus on the phrase “because it had no root it withered away.” This portion of the Parable of the Sower is explained in Mark 4:17 which says, “and they have no root in themselves, and so endure only for a time. Afterward, when tribulation or persecution arises for the word’s sake, immediately they stumble.”
Proverbs 2:22 says, “But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, And the unfaithful will be uprooted from it.”
If you have good roots you can’t be uprooted. Roots that go down deep into the soil of God’s word will not be uprooted. Proverbs 12:3 says, “A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved.”
Roots are a part of the tree that you don’t see and it’s usually the things people don’t see in you that make you a success. It is that very root system that keeps a tree stable in the midst of the storms and the wind. If you’ll stay rooted in God’s word you will not be blown around with every wind of doctrine. You will stay stable and successful through all the ups and downs.
Paul’s prayer for the saints in Ephesus was to stay strengthened in the Spirit and rooted in the love of God. Ephesians 3:16-17 says, “that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love.”
As you stay rooted and grounded in God’s word, the knowledge and discernment you’ll receive will cause God’s love to abound in you.
Philippians 1:9 says, “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight,”
Stay rooted and grounded in the Word of God!
For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be disquieted in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:8)
