Scripture for the Day (August 23, 2017)
Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: (1 Corinthians 1:25-28)
One of the key things that I have learned about God is that he is not a respecter of persons. He is not impressed with your IQ, your college degrees, your family name, your politics, your charm, your beauty, your size, your place of birth, your skin color, or any of the things we humans look at as qualifying or disqualifying factors. God looks at your heart!!!
Most of us are just regular people. We don’t stand out in a crowd or have some outstanding athletic talent that would qualify us for the Olympics, the NFL, or some professional sports team. We are just regular people that are trying to make ends meet, pay the bills, raise our children, and live a peaceful life.
Let me tell you something! God specializes in using regular people in this world to confound the wise. He will take a shepherd boy and make him a King because that boy had a heart after God. He will choose a young virgin girl to give birth to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords because she said be it unto me.
And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name. And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation. He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. (Luke 1:46-52)
As we look back on thirty-five years of ministry it has been our privilege to meet some of the most dedicated and powerful ministers of the Gospel. What is particularly unique about these people is that most people don’t even know who they are. People like Bill Brown, that founded World Ministry Fellowship; Dr. Bibba Holland that spent half of her life ministering in the Bush of Africa; and Pauline Horde, a retired school teacher, that taught hundreds of men in Parchman Penitentiary to read and write. These people were not and are not household names but they were powerful men and women of God that changed our lives just by knowing them. They were spiritual giants to us. I think we will all be surprised when we get to Heaven and find out who is in charge of certain things. I bet it will be some of these unknowns.
Here is my point. God is looking for regular people that have a heart for Him. That’s it!!! He will take that and make much out of it. He will lead you and guide you into places you never thought possible. He will put the words in your mouth to speak. All He is looking for is a willing heart like that of Mary who said, “Be it unto me according to thy word.” We just have to be willing to go!
