Scripture for the Day (August 31, 2017)
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity (love), these three; but the greatest of these is charity (love). (1 Corinthians 13:12)
The more I walk with the Lord and study His Word the more examples I see where we see through a glass darkly. The disciples that walked with Jesus had the same problem. Half the time they did not know exactly what Jesus was talking about. Jesus had to explain the parables to His disciples. On many occasions He had to explain even simple things to them. They just could not see it.
We live in a time when we have access to all kinds of Bible translations, commentaries, Greek and Hebrew word dictionaries, sermons from every kind of preacher imaginable, and on and on. We should know exactly what every Biblical text should mean, right? But we don’t!
It is always amazing to me when I read a scripture that I have read a hundred times and the Holy Spirit reveals something that I have never even thought of before. Usually that revelation is so simple that it just blows me away. Why haven’t I ever seen that before? That is the amazing and miraculous thing about the Word of God. It is quick (alive) and since the Holy Spirit anointed men to write it He is the best one to explain it to us.
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (1 Corinthians 2:9-10)
My wife and I authored a book several years ago entitled “For The Love of God”. I firmly believe that what Jesus told us in Matthew is a key to revealing some of these hidden truths in the Bible.
Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. (Matthew 22:36-38)
This same key is repeated in our “Scripture for the Day” when it is talking about seeing through a glass darkly and then in the very next verse talks about love being greater than faith and hope. Here is my point. I have never received any revelation from the Lord when I wasn’t seeking Him with all my heart. That has usually been while reading His Word, praying, worshipping, or in some way loving on Him. I guess the best way I can explain it is that when I love on Him, He loves me back. There is no higher high for me than when the Holy Spirit brings a scripture, or group of scriptures, alive to me which changes my life and understanding forever.
The Bible is a personal love letter to you and me. It is personal!! You can’t live on someone else’s revelation. You have to spend time with God yourself. You have to put on your own armor. Somebody else’s armor doesn’t fit. The more you develop that personal relationship with Him, the clearer you spiritual eyesight will become. God wants all of us to walk in the light, not in darkness!
All it takes is love. That’s all it takes.
