(excerpts from  a teaching by Pastor Robert Morris)

Scripture for the Day (November 15, 2017)

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (1 Corinthian 2:9-10)

Many people in the Body of Christ do not know how to relate to the Holy Spirit. He does not fit into their religious box and some people characterize the Holy Spirit as a power, a force, or something other than a person. As believers, we are supposed to have a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. Jesus said the Holy Spirit would come alongside of us to be our helper and teacher. Let me ask you a question. How are we going to hear what the Holy Spirit wants to teach us if we don’t have a personal relationship with Him? A personal relationship is with a person, not a power or a force.

Did you know that the Holy Spirit is not His real name? We serve a triune God. The Trinity is made up of the Father, the Son, and the Spirit. They are all one but they have different functions. We have God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. In actuality, the real name of the Holy Spirit is “God”.

In one of our previous devotionals we asked the following question. Do you have a problem with the statement that the Father is God? Do you have a problem with the statement that Jesus is God? Do you have a problem with the statement that the Holy Spirit is God? Most believers do not have a problem with the first two statements. The last statement is another story all together. If you have a problem with the third statement you need to go back to your Bible and read about the Holy Spirit. The following are just a few scriptures relating to the subject of the Holy Spirit being God, being a person, and wanting to speak to us.

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. (1 John 5:7)

Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. (John 14:17)

But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me: (John 15:26)

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (John 16:13)

Did you know that the Holy Spirit has emotions? A force or power does not have emotions. A person has emotions.

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30)

We encourage you today to develop a personal relationship with the Holy Spirit. We all have questions. Ask Him! That is His job description. The more time you spend with Him, the more you will be able to hear Him. He wants to be your guide and helper but you have to recognize Him as a person, a third part of the Trinity, if you ever want to develop a personal relationship with Him.
