A Nugget from New Life Network
Scripture for the Day (January 4, 2018)
He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. (Luke 6:48)
One of the things we spend a lot of time doing is praying and counseling with people from all over the United States and Canada. We have worked with Joyce Meyer Ministries for over 20 years and their prayer-line refers people to us who do not have a good church home. That amounts to some five to six thousand people per year. Our main job is to try to get them plugged into a good local church in their area. However, as you might guess, a lot of these calls end up in counselling and prayer sessions.
We have had the opportunity to minister to thousands of people through this outreach and it allows us to get a good feel for where people are spiritually around the country. I recently talked with a man from another state that was very bitter and depressed. Several members of his family had recently passed away due to heart disease and he was very concerned that he also may develop heart problems. His fiancé had recently left him. His house was being repossessed. He did not have a job. He did not have enough to eat. The government was not helping him enough. His well-to-do relatives were not helping him. As a result, he was mad at God and everybody else.
This is one of those times when we really need the Holy Ghost to help us with a person. The more I listened to him, the madder I became. I wasn’t mad at him, but I was mad at the devil for trying to steal this man’s hope, for trying to bring fear into this man’s soul, and trying to fill this man’s mind with bitterness toward God and man. It’s not that I can’t empathize and sympathize with this man, but that does not solve the problem. We had a great time of prayer together and in the end the Holy Ghost touched this man and he broke down in tears and his hope was restored. Thank you God!!!
There may be some people that read this devotional that are in similar situations. You may be on the brink of losing all hope. Don’t do that!!! There is a way of escape!!! God does have an answer for you!!! Get into a Bible believing Spirit-filled church. Satan will always try to isolate you so you will drown in your sorrows. You need to be around God’s people who can pray for you and help you.
Get mad at the right person. It is Satan that comes to kill, steal, and destroy. It’s not God!!! Do all you can and then stand. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:13)
Be at peace in your soul. God will never leave you or forsake you. In the midst of the storm, we have to be anchored on the Rock. Jesus and His Word is our sure foundation and we have to rely on that when everything else looks like it’s falling apart.
When Paul and Silas were chained in a Roman prison, things did not look good. What did they do? They sang praises to God and the chains were loosed and the prison doors were opened. When Jesus was crucified, things did not look good. What did He do? He said forgive them for they know not what they do. If you could talk to Paul and Silas today they would tell you that it was well with their souls as they sat in that prison. If you could talk to Jesus today He would tell you it was well with His soul as He hung on that cross. The devil may be able to steal certain things from you but he can’t steal your hope in God, unless you voluntarily give it to him. Don’t do that!!!
The last and most important thing I want all of you to do is listen to the following anointed song, “It is Well” by Bethel Music. The lyrics and the anointing says it all!
