Scriptures for the Day (May 3,2018)
I call heaven and earth to record this day against you that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing. Therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live, (Deuteronomy 30:19)
Before the creation of man, God created the angels. They were magnificent, glorious creatures, filled with beauty and they worshiped God. There are different rankings in the angelic realm. There are archangels, seraphim, cherubim, and other heavenly hosts. In eternity past, all of the angels honored God Almighty with praise, worship, and music, fulfilling one of the duties of their creation.
In the beginning of creation, Lucifer was in Eden, the Garden of God in Heaven (Ezekiel 28:13). He was covered with beautiful and precious stones of priceless value and within himself, he possessed percussion and wind musical instruments and was anointed from the day he was created. He was the anointed cherub that covers (anoints) and he was established by God himself. He walked freely on the holy mountain of God in the midst of the fiery stones (sparkling gemstones).God said about Lucifer: “I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God” (Ezekiel 28:14).
When the Bible talks about a mountain, most of the time the term “mountain” represents “kingdom.” So it doesn’t mean that Lucifer was on the top of a physical mountain. No, it means he was established in the holy kingdom of God.
In the Hebrew Bible, Paradise is described as a beautiful place of peace and full of prosperity. It is a garden of plenty. In the Greek, paradise simply means a garden. At the time that Lucifer was anointed in Paradise, Paradise was in Heaven. There was unity and peace under the King of the kingdom.
You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: The sardius, topaz, and diamond, beryl, onyx, and jasper, sapphire, turquoise, and emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels and pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created. (Ezekiel 28:12-15)
The Bible tells us from the day of his creation, Lucifer was perfect until the day iniquity was found in him (Ezekiel 28:15). When my grandchildren were younger, at some point they each asked me this question: “Why did God create the devil?” Of course, the answer is simple. God did not create the devil. God created Lucifer and he was perfect in every way. Like mankind, the angels had a choice, and Lucifer became the devil through his own choice. The Word of God tells us that everything in the universe was created, including Lucifer, but the perfect creation made an imperfect decision to rebel.
Although the concept is sometimes difficult to grasp, the truth is that although God can look down through the corridors of time and He knows everything that is going to happen before it happens, He still allowed the angels and mankind the ability to choose their own fate. This is why prophecy in the Scriptures can prophesy a good event or an evil event. It’s not that God planned for evil to happen, but He knows the choices men and angels will make before they make them because He sees the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). This is further proven when God said, “I have set before you life and death…, therefore, choose life” (Deuteronomy 30:19). He has a plan, but it’s our choice as to whether we follow it or not.
