Scripture for the Day (June 20, 2016)

THE heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handiwork. (Psalm 19:1)

God is not limited in the ways in which He can speak to us. He created everything so He can use anything and anybody to speak to us. We usually tend to limit God to what we think are normal God to human communication channels such as hearing an audible voice or hearing God through His Word. Could it be that God is trying to talk to us in other ways and we just miss it because we have limited God?

Let’s look at a couple of examples in the Bible where God used communication channels that we would not normally think of paying attention to:

When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam; so Balaam was angry and struck the donkey with his stick. And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?” Then Balaam said to the donkey, “Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand, I would have killed you by now. (Numbers 22:27-29, NAS)

But he was rebuked for his transgression by a donkey, otherwise without speech, that spoke with a man’s voice and restrained the prophet’s madness. (2 Peter 2:16)

And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed. And Moses said, I will now turn aside, and see this great sight, why the bush is not burnt. And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. (Exodus 3:2-4)

In 1981 we were living in Collierville, TN. I was not saved at the time. I was drinking pretty heavy and this
one particular Saturday afternoon I was relaxing on my couch watching a ball game and drinking a cold beer. With no warning a five year old boy from down the street came walking in our house through our back door and walked straight up to me and said “You are going to Hell!” I jumped up and yelled for my wife and said, “Who is this kid and what is he doing in our house?”

Here is my point. God can speak to us a myriad of ways. He can use a donkey, a burning bush, or a five year old. He can use anything He wants. We just have to pay attention and learn like Moses to turn aside and see. By the way, that five year old was right and he did get my attention.

Are you praying and asking God for an answer about something? Don’t limit God. He just may use an unusual way to answer you.

“I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station through which God speaks to us every hour if we will only tune in”. ~~ George Washington Carver

For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands. (Isaiah 55:12)
