Scripture for the Day (August 7, 2018)
Psalm 22:3 says, “But you are Holy, You who inhabit the praises of Israel.”
We just finished a Sunday morning service in our home church that was full of praise and worship. The Pastor never did preach and that is very uncommon for our church. But God showed up in a mighty way and many people were touched and set free in the midst of praise and worship. Many of you have been in those type services but some have not experienced that so let’s look at a few scriptures that describe the importance and power of praise and worship.
Matthew 8:2-3: And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.” Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately his leprosy was cleansed.
Luke 24:52-53 says, “And they worshiped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple praising and blessing God.”
John 9:38-39 says, “Then he said, ‘Lord, I believe!’ And he worshiped Him, and Jesus said, ‘For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.’”
Acts 13:2 says, “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’”
Acts 16:14 says, “Now a certain woman named Lydia heard us. She was a seller of purple from the city of Thyatira, who worshiped God. The Lord opened her heart to heed the things spoken by Paul.”
We could have spent all day finding scriptures like these. The common theme in all five of these passages is worship and in each passage something happened because of worship.
First passage: A leper came and worshiped Jesus, and Jesus put out His hand and touched him and he was healed.
Second passage: They worshiped Him and received great joy.
Third passage: They worshiped Him, and Jesus spoke. This is a common theme in the Word of God. People worship and God speaks.
Fourth passage: As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit spoke to them. People ministered to the Lord (God) and He spoke.
Fifth passage: Lydia worshiped God and the Lord opened her heart. The Lord did something for Lydia because she worshiped.
We need to all find a place where we can worship God with abandon. If you can’t do that in your church, then do it in your home. Let’s just make sure we give God a space He can inhabit. It’s important!!!
