Scripture for the Day (July 7, 2016)

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Matthew 6:33)

In a recent devotional we talked about sinners not knowing that salvation belongs to them. Jesus has already bought the salvation of the worst sinner, just as He did for the born-again Christian. By the same token, if Christians don’t know the things that belong to them, it won’t do them any good. They need to find out what belongs to them!

Ephesians 1:3 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” The New Living Translation says, “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ.” The American Standard Version renders “all spiritual blessings” as “every spiritual blessing.” II Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.”

God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in Christ and that includes everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of Him. I pray the preceding verses daily and I can tell you that praying the Word works. I have received wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of God from reading the Word that I had never received until I started praying these prayers.

Ephesians 1:17-23 says, “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”

We need to know what belongs to us. Jesus said, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). In Hosea God says, “My people [not sinners, not the world] are destroyed for lack of knowledge….” (Hosea 4:6).

It is time to wake up and find out what belongs to you. Don’t rely on man to tell you. Read His Word. Pray His Word. Ask God!!! He will show you.
