Scripture for the Day (July 25, 2016)
As iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens [and influences] another [through discussion]. (Proverbs 27:17, Amplified)
We just returned from a great “Hope Day” function in Orlando FL with Evolv Health. A big thank you is due to Ryan and Jenny Chamberlin for being such great hosts and leaders. It was one of the best functions we have had with Evolv Health to date. People were free to share their life stories and the Lord was free to move through the various testimonies.
As nice as technology is today, nothing can replace people assembling together and just sharing their hearts. The scripture in Hebrews 10:25 says the following:
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as ye see the Day approaching.
This scripture has been used extensively by the church to refer exclusively to church meetings. I think we miss the bigger picture when we limit the meaning to just church meetings. What about the need for families to assemble together? What about the need for business associates to meet together? What about the need for the family of God to meet together outside the church? What about the need for covenant friends to meet together?
On the way back to our home from Orlando we stopped in Lake City FL to visit some really close friends that we have not seen in a while. We are covenant friends with this couple and we have walked a lot of miles together and experienced a lot of God together. It had been too long and we needed to reconnect. We are so glad that we did!
We did a devotional several weeks ago about the importance of “laying on of hands”. It’s hard to lay hands on someone over the computer or through Facebook. It is just not the same. We need our covenant friends and we need to do whatever is necessary to make sure we don’t allow the enemy to steal our time with family and close friends.
We encourage you to do whatever is necessary to reconnect with family and friends. If you have to swallow your pride, do it. If you have to forgive, forgive. If you have to take the first step, do it. Whatever it takes, do it!
Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. (Ecclesiates 4:9-12)
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. (Acts 2:46-48)
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20)
