Distractions

Scripture Of The Day

And this I say for your own profit, not that I may put a leash on you, but for what is proper, and that you may serve the Lord without distraction.

1 Corinthians 7:35

By Cheryl Henderson

In the world we live in, there are so many distractions. That word means a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else. Other words have a similar meaning: mental distress, frenzy, hysteria, madness, and so on.

In the Bible, there were so many who got distracted from their calling. Moses' anger kept him from going into the promised land. David was distracted by pleasure. Peter was distracted while walking on the water. If it happened to them, it can certainly happen to us.

Here are a couple of things that can help you stay focused on your time with the Lord without distractions;

Silence your phone and put it out of sight.

  1. Take a few deep breaths, letting go of tension as you exhale. …

2. Give yourself time to transition from activity to attentiveness, from doing to being present. …

3. If you get distracted, just come back to focusing on God.

4. Keep paper handy to note tasks that come to mind. Writing relieves you of the fear of forgetting something important

5. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you focus on God and block distractions from your mind.

6. He will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: Isaiah 26:3
