Perfectionism

Scripture Of The Day
Whatever you do, whatever kind of work you are doing, work heartily, with all your heart and all the different ways that plays out in scripture, with Christ-like character, with honesty, with diligence, with integrity, with humility. So work heartily as for the Lord and not for men. (Colossians 3:23-24)

Perfectionism is a personality trait marked by setting unrealistically high standards for oneself and others, often accompanied by strong self-criticism and a deep fear of failure, which can lead to stress, anxiety, procrastination, and other mental health issues. It can manifest in self-oriented, other-oriented, or socially prescribed forms, and while it can drive ambition, unhealthy perfectionism can prevent growth and contribute to feelings of shame and inadequacy.
Perfectionism is not what God requires. I know many people who want to always make the things they do...Perfect. Guess what? There was only one perfect, and that was Jesus! Perfectionism is often rooted in fear. Fear that you are not good enough, and you are trying to prove you are. It is also rooted in pride. No one will do it as well as you. Perfectionism often leads to procrastination. If I can't do it perfectly, I won't do it at all.
Excellence is what we are reaching for. NBA Coach Pat Riley says, "Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better." Excellence isn't instant; it's a slow and steady process.
I encourage you today to throw perfectionism out the window and follow Colossians 3:23-24. " Whatever you do, work heartily as for the Lord....."
