The Spirit Of Hospitality

Scripture Of The Day

Be hospitable to one another without complaint. (1 Peter 4:9)

By Cheryl Henderson

You may not know it, but hospitality is very important to the Lord. God wants His kids to be kind to one another and to love one another. He wants us to serve one another and others.

When I was growing up, our home was the place everyone wanted to be. It was fun, full of music, and Mama always had enough food for anyone who showed up at dinner time. (I don’t know how she did that.) People felt welcomed, loved, and appreciated when they came to our house.

In the world we live in today, the term, customer service is used. In case you haven't noticed, customer service is almost nonexistent. Good customer service is treating someone like they were a guest in your home. I'm pretty old school, and even though it is hard, customer service (hospitality) is much needed in all that we do.

To me, it is a heart issue. Jesus said He did not come to be served, but to serve. He said that whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant. (Matthew 20:26) Let's face it, as Christians, we are in the people business. God is in the people business. He said that He would that none should perish.

Join me in prayer today as we pray that we develop a heart for hospitality, a heart to serve, and a heart to love others like never before. I pray that the Spirit of Hospitality is stirred up in us toward others, and that others may see Jesus in us.
