As Iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. Proverbs 27:17

A friend's words stung. I could hardly sleep as I replayed her pointed comments about my strong opinions. My first reaction was hurt, but instead of defending myself, I prayed, "Lord, she hurt my feelings, but show me where I need to change. If there is truth in what she said, help me see it."
That conversation stayed with me for weeks. Little by little, I realized God was using my friend like a piece of heavenly sandpaper. The process wasn't comfortable. My pride was being rubbed raw, and I had a choice. I could become offended and resist God's work, or I could humble myself and allow Him to shape my character.
Growth rarely comes through comfort. It often comes through correction. When we are willing to confess our pride, lay down our stubbornness, and receive God's refining work, He begins smoothing the rough edges of our lives. Solomon reminds us in Proverbs that "iron sharpens iron." God often uses the people around us to make us stronger, wiser, and more like Christ.
Not every criticism is accurate, but every criticism is an opportunity to ask God, "Is there something You want to teach me?" A humble heart invites the Holy Spirit to transform what pride tries to protect.
Today, don't resist the refining process. Even if the truth stings for a moment, God is using it to shape you into the person He created you to be. Let Him smooth your rough edges so that His character can shine more clearly through your life.
