Working Out What God Works In

Scripture Of The Day
“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.” Philippians 2:12
By Cheryl Henderson
At first glance, this verse can sound like we are responsible for earning our salvation—but that’s not what Paul is saying. Salvation is a gift from God, freely given through grace. What Paul is teaching is that we are to live out what God has already placed within us.
To “work out” means to bring to the surface, to put into action, to let your faith be visible in everyday life. It’s like a seed planted in the soil—there is life inside, but it must grow and develop. God has already done the saving work in you; now you are called to cooperate with Him so that His work is evident through your thoughts, choices, and actions.
The phrase “fear and trembling” isn’t about being afraid of God—it’s about having a deep reverence and awareness of His holiness and presence. It’s recognizing that your life matters, your walk matters, and what God is doing in you is sacred.
Every day is an opportunity to reflect what God has done in your heart. As you yield to Him, He shapes your character, strengthens your faith, and aligns your life with His purpose.
