Scripture for the Day – April 30, 2019

And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God. (Mark 10:18)

We just returned from the Orlando, FL area where we spent several wonderful days with Brig and Lita Hart and the leaders of their new venture with R3Global and Jeunesse. We will be serving as Chaplains for this new organization and it is a huge honor for us to serve in that capacity.

We also had an opportunity to preach Sunday morning at Total Freedom in Ocoee, FL. Guy and Cate Iannello are the founders and directors of Total Freedom which has helped hundreds of people get set free from all kinds of addictions. They have several residential homes for men and women and have been faithful to their call. They left early Sunday morning to minister in Ohio so it worked out perfectly for us to stand in for them while they were gone. We love this couple and it is always an honor to serve them.

The subject we taught on was the “Goodness of God”. If you have been reading any of our devotionals for the last few months you know that God has been dealing with us about this subject for a long time. The more I study this subject the more I try to come up with adequate words to describe the “Goodness of God” and there just seems to be no words. I have searched the Hebrew and Greek and I still cannot find words that come anywhere close to describing what I feel in my heart and spirit about God’s goodness.

As I was preparing for the service on Sunday morning a scripture came to me that on the surface appears to be unrelated to this subject but the more I thought about it the more I think it does relate. This scripture was a statement made by the Apostle Paul and it goes like this:

And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. (1 Corinthians 2:4-5)

What was Paul saying here without really saying it? I think he was saying that there are no adequate words to describe or define the goodness of God. The only way you can adequately explain to people how good God is for them to experience the power of God. There has to be a demonstration before you really realize how good God really is.

As I read this scripture I started to recall my own personal experiences with God and how life changing those experiences were. I can vividly recall thinking to myself during one such demonstration from God, “Oh My God, this stuff is real!” I was brought up in a religious family but there was no relationship with God. There was no demonstration of His Spirit and power so to me it was never really real. However, after I saw and experienced the power of God things started to become real. It was those demonstrations that showed me the goodness of God and how He wanted to set people free and empower them to be overcomers.

I wish I had the words to explain to people how good God is but I don’t. The only way you are going to know that is by the demonstration of His power in your own life. The only suggestion I can make to you is that you need to be in a place that allows the demonstration of His power. Every church and place of worship is not open to that. Seek out a place that is. If you need help, call us and we will help you find such a place.
