Scripture for the Day – June 5, 2020
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.”
I have heard it said and I have said it many times, I just want to do God’s will. Well, to do God’s will, you must know God’s will, and God’s will is God’s Word. Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines will as a desire or wish. When someone dies they leave a will for someone to carry out their wishes. It is what they willed. God’s Word is His Last Will and Testament. God’s Word is God’s will for you.
Faith begins where the will of God is known (Romans 10:17) and as I said earlier, God’s Word is God’s will, so let’s look into the Word.
Psalm 138:2 says, “For you have magnified your Word above all your name.”
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden your Word in my heart that I might not sin against you.”
Psalm 40:8 says, “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law (Word) is within my heart.”
John 15:7 says, “If you abide in Me, and My Words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.”
John 14:23-24 says, “Jesus answered and said to him, ‘If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My Words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me.’”
James 1:22-25 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty (Word) and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.” God also gave us His Holy Spirit to help us know God’s will.
John 16:13 says, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.” Jesus said in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your Word is truth.”
The Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of Peace, will help you in knowing God’s will in areas where you don’t have specific scriptures to tell you what to do. For example: Whether it’s God’s will for you to move to Africa on the mission field. The Holy Spirit, which is the Spirit of Truth, could take a truth from God’s Word and give you insight or wisdom into what to do. For example: the story of Joshua and Caleb and the ten spies. They spied out the land before they were going into it. As you are reading this story the Holy Spirit could show you that maybe you should spy out the land in Africa (or any other country) on a short trip before you commit to long-term. Now that’s wisdom!
Joshua 1:8 says, “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success.”
His Word will always lead us into His will.
