Scripture for the Day – June 24, 2020
Mark 9:24: When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” He said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
If Jesus had to command the demon to never enter the man again, there is reason to believe that the demon would try to return. It is so important to understand the tactics of the enemy and know the Word of God so we can fight the good fight of faith. Some ministers and denominations don’t even believe that demons exist or that the devil has any power on earth. They even go so far as to teach that the devil is God’s devil and God controls all his actions. Do not believe that! The devil is the devil and he and God are not in partnership. That is why you must know the Word of God for yourself!!!
Matthew 12:43-45 says, “When an unclean spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”
When an unclean spirit is cast out of a person, they need to be born again and filled with the Holy Spirit immediately. Then they need to be taught the Word of God that will help them resist that unclean spirit when he tries to return with his friends.
I Corinthians 6:19 says, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;”
In Luke 4 Jesus was being tempted by the devil. Jesus just kept quoting the Word of God until the devil got tired of hearing what God had to say and left. But verse 13 says, “And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for aseason.” The New International Version says, “He left him until an opportune time.”
I Peter 5:8-9 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.”
James 4:7 says, “Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.” You submit to God and resist the devil by doing just what Jesus did. He submitted to the Word of God every time the devil tempted Him. The Word of God is the sword of the spirit that we fight the devil with.
Ephesians 6:17 says, “…and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” Overflowing with the Word of God is the very act of resisting the devil.
