Scripture for the Day (September 18, 2018)
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it. (John 14:12-14)
Jesus is speaking to believers in John 14 because He says he who believes in me will do the works that I do and greater works will he do. Believers are the people who believe in Jesus and who have confessed and confess daily that Jesus is Lord. We will do the works of Jesus and greater works. Is that really possible? Now of course Satan will tell you no. He will whisper in your ear, “Who do you think you are?” He will accuse you of pride and arrogance because he is the accuser of the brethren. He will lie to you and say that all the works that Jesus and His apostles did mysteriously disappeared when they died, which is not scriptural at all. It is a lie because he is the father of lies.
So, let’s look at some other scriptures (the truth) that will help us see how these works and greater works (that Jesus said would be) are possible.
In John 14:16-17 Jesus says, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”
In John 16:7 Jesus says, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”
Jesus was leaving and it was going to be to our advantage because he was going to send the Holy Spirit who could live in each and every believer. Jesus could only be in one place at a time but the Holy Spirit could be anywhere and everywhere, living in each believer. That makes way for greater works.
Also in Matthew 16:19 Jesus says, “And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”
He gave us His name and the authority to use His name so we could do the works He did and even greater works.
And lastly, we can do even greater works than He did because of prayer. He tells us in verses 13 and 14: “Whatsoever YE SHALL ASK in my name, that will I do. . . . If YE SHALL ASK any thing in my name, I will do it.”
We can accomplish the greater works through the power of prayer! Prayer is putting God to work in the earth and nothing is impossible with God. (Luke1:37)
I want to ask you a simple question. Are you expecting greater works? Could it be that we have been lied to and the very freedom and anointing that Jesus paid for with His own blood has been stolen from us? Jesus was either telling us the truth or He was lying. I choose to believe Jesus was telling us the truth and Satan was and is a liar.
It is time to start living and expecting greater works!!!
