Scripture for the Day (August 17, 2018)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

At our church we teach victory. One key scripture that we stand upon is First John 5:4 that says, “This is the victory that has overcome the world – our faith.” How do we obtain that victory? It’s by faith. What is faith? Faith is believing God so strongly that everything you say and do is based upon that belief.

If this is true, and it is, then why is it that we still continue to have attacks in our lives? Some of these attacks are financial, some are physical, and some are emotional. Sometimes it seems like the attack is so relentless that it is difficult to stand under the strain of the weight that is upon us. If we truly have victory, then why do we have these
attacks?

One of our gifted worship team singers in our church is truly a psalmist. God speaks to her musically and several of the songs we sing at our church were written by her. One of her songs that come straight from the Word of God is called, “My God, My Deliverer.” It’s based on Psalm 34:19 where it says, “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.”

We must never forget that the attacks in life are not from God. To the contrary, He is the one who delivers us from the attacks. We know full well that John 10:10 says the thief comes to steal, to kill, and to destroy. But we must never forget that the second half of that verse says that Jesus came to give us life, and His life is full abundant life.

So how do we justify the truth that we are victorious and still under attack? The answer is in the first paragraph of this devotional – our victory is through our faith. When you know that God will deliver you, then there won’t be any apprehension because of an attack from the enemy. We must never forget that although the enemy is the one bringing on the attack, God will never allow him to bring more against you than you can resist through your shield of faith that He’s given you. And when we use our shield of faith to quench all of the fiery darts of the enemy, we are safe, and if we stay in faith and continue to believe His Word, there will be peace in the storm and deliverance from the storm.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; (Ephesians 6:11-18)

Never forget God’s Word: “Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all.” (Psalm 34:19)
