Scripture for the Day – July 4, 2019
If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
We live in the greatest and the freest nation in the world (the United States of America). That did not happen without God. It did not happen without inspired leaders. That does not mean any of these leaders were perfect. They weren’t, and you and I aren’t perfect either. However, God can use imperfect people to accomplish His goals and He has done it all through history. King Cyrus did not even know God, but God used him to rebuild the temple. Moses was a murderer, but God used him to lead the nation of Israel out of Egyptian bondage. Paul persecuted all that believed in Jesus, but God used him to reach the Gentiles (that’s you and me) with the Gospel.
I was in a meeting recently where someone voiced their support for our current President. Another person in the room made the remark that they had lived in New York City for years and this President did not believe like this Christian supporter believed. As Christians, here is the bottom-line to that argument. We have to get back to standing on the Word of God and not on what we think is the right person or the right way. God’s ways are higher than our ways. He uses the foolish things of the world to confound the wise. We are either going to be led by the Word or we are going to be led by our feelings, emotions, political affiliations, news media, intellectual arguments, traditions of man, etc. We have to make a choice, and it is really more serious than you think.
Murmuring and complaining in the midst of God’s blessings is not smart. Here are some scriptures you need to consider:
Daniel answered and said, Blessed be the name of God for ever and ever: for wisdom and might are his: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding: (Daniel 2:20-21)
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-4)
And they (Korah and his followers) rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel, two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of renown: And they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron, and said unto them, Ye take too much upon you, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and the Lord is among them: wherefore then lift ye up yourselves above the congregation of the Lord? And when Moses heard it, he fell upon his face: (Numbers 16:2-4) Is it a small thing that thou hast brought us up out of a land that floweth with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except thou make thyself altogether a prince over us? (Number 16:13) And Moses said, Hereby ye shall know that the Lord hath sent me to do all these works; for I have not done them of mine own mind. If these men die the common death of all men, or if they be visited after the visitation of all men; then the Lord hath not sent me. But if the Lord make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with allthat appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the Lord. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground clave asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods. (Numbers 16:28-32)
Thank you Lord for the United States of America. Thank you for our freedom. Thank you for our President and all the leaders that you have chosen to lead this nation. Protect them Lord, and give them wisdom to lead and guide this nation in the direction that you want us to go. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus!!!
