Scripture for the Day (September 21, 2015)

And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. (Genesis 2:5-6)

The Bible says, “The Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.” At the beginning of creation God caused a mist to come up from the earth and water the ground. Up until that time there had been no downpour from the heavens. That’s because there was nobody to do the prep work and “till the ground.” There is a great spiritual lesson here! There are things God has planned to do, made provision for, and desires to do—but He won’t do them until we “get into place” where we can receive what He longs to give us. The blessing is there, safe in God’s keeping. The need is there, persistent in its pain. But the blessing can’t come until our heart is in the right place for God to act.

Right now you may be enjoying a “mist,” but you know God has more for you. You have a frustration that causes you to say, “Why am I not further along?” Rather than blaming people and circumstances you need to pause, look up, and ask, “Lord, are You waiting for me to get into place?” When you ask that question be prepared to hear the answer and obey it, even if it means rearranging your priorities and paying the price to receive what God wants you to have.

There was one particular time in our own spiritual journey that I thought I knew better than my Pastor the road to take. Sometimes we can think more highly of ourselves than we ought. Sometimes we can get blinded by vain imaginations and/or unforgiveness. In my case, it was just plain pride and ego. I thought I knew better than my Pastor (the person God had placed over me at the time) the road we should take. That decision proved not to be a good one. It resulted in a drought, not a downpour.

Thank the Lord for grace, mercy, and second chances. I eventually went back to my Pastor, asked for forgiveness, and got back in the downpour.

What does He want for you and I to have? Not a mist, but a downpour! He’s willing and “able to do exceeding abundantly above all we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us” (Ephesians 3:20). But first you must “get into place.” Do whatever you have to do! If you have to repent, repent! If you have to forgive, forgive! But get into the place God has called you to!!!!!!!!

There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, But its end is the way of death. (Proverbs 14:12, Amplified)
