Scripture of The Day

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. (Jeremiah 33:3)

By Ed Henderson

Jeremiah 33:3, our scripture for the day, has long been described and labeled as God’s telephone number. For the mature believer, you are all very much familiar with this scripture and how to call on God. However, for a new believer, or for one that is seeking, you may not even know how to start this type phone call or even know what to say. We suggest a good starting point for this type call is the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-13). We are not just talking about reciting a memorized Lord’s prayer but understanding the meaning of each section of the prayer and praying it from your heart and not your head. Here are a few helpful hints:

1. Our Father which art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name, We first need to acknowledge and worship God as our Creator and Father who abides in Heaven. He is Holy and has all the answers we need. The Creator of the Universe deserves our praise and worship as the one and only true God.
2. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We need to acknowledge that we don’t have all the answers and we are seeking the will of the Father. Trying to get God to impose our personal solution to a situation is not the right attitude and more akin to witchcraft. Humility, and not arrogance, is the right attitude.
3. Give us this day our daily bread Jesus is the Word made flesh and is the bread of life. As you and I study His Word, and are obedient to do His word on a daily basis, all our other needs will be met (including daily provision). We all need a daily dose of the Holy Ghost.
4. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors Forgiveness is not a suggestion but a mandate from God. It keeps the line of communications open with God. “But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” (Matthew 6:15)
5. And lead us not into temptation God tempts no man with evil (James 1:13) but we will be tempted in this life by the enemy and can choose to ignore the prompts of the Holy Ghost and go the way of the world or we can circumvent sin and destruction by going the way of the Word. You can avoid a lot of heartache by going God’s way.
6. But deliver us from evil The thief cometh to kill, steal and destroy (John 10:10). You don’t want to follow that road. Jesus came to give you abundant life. God has already given you a way of escape. His name is Jesus and He is our deliverer.
7. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

We start our prayers with praise and worship and we end our prayers with praise and worship. He is worthy!!!  Call Him up!!! He never sleeps or slumbers. His phone is never busy. He has the answer to all your questions. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
