Scripture for the Day – February 5, 2020

Proverbs 4:20-22: My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.

A marginal note in some reference Bibles will show that the last phrase of the above verses can read “and medicine to all their flesh.” This means that God has prescribed His Words for our healing and our health.

I remember many years ago when I was praying for one of our sons. He had fallen while climbing and the doctors thought he had broken the growth plate in his right arm. I was out of town at the time and my wife had called me to alert me to the accident. As I prayed that afternoon, God brought this same scripture (Proverbs 4:20-22) back to
me.

I had previously memorized this particular scripture so it was part of me. But that day, God asked me a question? He said, is your son flesh of your flesh? I said, yes sir, he is flesh of my flesh and bone of my bones. Then God said, this promise applies not only to you personally, but to all your flesh, including your son. I had never thought of that before. I knew immediately that my son would be fine.

Medicine, even in the natural, won’t do any good unless you take it according to directions. You could go to a doctor, get a prescription, have it filled, take it home, set it on your bedside table and still grow steadily worse! You could call the doctor and complain, “I don’t understand it. I paid good money for this prescription, but I’m getting worse.” The doctor might ask, “Are you taking your medicine according to directions?” “Well, no, but I’ve got it right here in the bottle at my bedside.”

The medicine won’t work just because it’s in the bottle. You’ve got to get it in you! And God’s medicine (your Bible) won’t work just because you have it on your bedside table. But it will work if you’ll get it down on the inside of you – into your heart, or spirit. And not just by reading it and forgetting it; but by meditating upon it until it becomes
a part of your inward man.

James 1:22 says, “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.”

Proverbs 16:24 in the Amplified Bible says, “Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body.”

Psalm 107:19-21, ESV – They cried to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He sent out his word and healed them, and delivered them from their destruction. Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love, for his wondrous works to the children of man!

I’m taking advantage of this medicine. You can even double up on this medicine and you won’t have adverse effects.
