Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
(Philippians 1:2)

By Cheryl Henderson

Many of the epistles begin with the sentence, Grace and peace unto you. I love that, because I need God’s grace and peace in my life on a daily basis. I know we are saved by grace, but in Philippians 1:2 it is talking about living grace. The kind of grace that we need in everyday situations, raising our families, working our jobs, keeping our marriages healthy, and so on. The Passion Bible says it like this, “May the blessings of divine grace and supernatural peace that flows from God our Father, and our Messiah, the Lord Jesus, be upon your lives.”

How do we get this grace for our everyday lives you may ask? It comes from God the Father. It is unmerited favor. You did not earn it, you can’t buy it, it is provided for you because you are God’s child. It is multiplied to us through knowledge of the Word of God ( 2 Peter 1:2 ) and it also increases peace to us. Think about it, The more you know God and His Word and how much He loves you and that He never leaves you, the more you will trust Him and believe in Him the more you are at peace. He’s got you! My sweet husband said it like this, ” the more you know how good God is the gooder He gets.”

Another place this grace comes from is an increase of faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word. This grace is not a human thing, it is divine. As I read and study the Word I see it like this; first you get saved, you learn to pray, (just talk to God) then you put into practice what you read in the Word and what God tells you to do in prayer, and you begin to mature and grow.

I don’t know about you, but I want to know God more, walk in His favor, rest in His peace, and share with others what a wonderful Father He is. Grace and peace be unto you today!
