Scripture of The Day

Martha, you are worried. . . . but only one thing is necessary.  (Luke10:41 CEV

I read a devotional the other day and it really hit home to me.  Do you remember the story of Mary and Martha?  Jesus came to visit their home. Mary sat at His feet while Martha was busy in the kitchen. Martha was so worried that she even tried to tell Jesus what to do! “My sister has left me to do the work. . . Tell her to help me.” ( Luke 10:40 NIV) Worry makes you forget who’s servant and who’s Lord.

Note 3 things:

  1.  Martha was busy serving, but she wasn’t enjoying it.  Of course, she wanted to please Jesus; it’s just that she allowed the work of the Lord to become more important to her than the Lord of the work.  Have you ever done that?
  2.   Satan didn’t take Martha out of the kitchen. he just stole her purpose for being there.  He doesn’t take you out of the church, he just makes you focus on yourself.  He doesn’t take you out of the ministry he just disillusions you by saying you’re overworked, underpaid, and underappreciated.
  3.   God values your attitude more than your service. “Do everything without complaining” (Ph 2:14 NIV).  A bad attitude spoils the gift you bring to the altar.  Jesus said, “Martha . . only one thing is necessary.  Mary has chosen it. ” Mary worshipped at Jesus’ feet.  He always prefers the quiet devotion of a sincere heart, to the noisy attitude of a complainer. Think about it!
