Scripture for the Day – January 22, 2020

“The kingdom of heaven is like a [very precious] treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid again; then in his joy he goes and sells all he has and buys that field [securing the treasure for himself]. (Matthew 13:44, Amplified Bible)

There are numerous places in the scripture where the things of God are described as treasures. Treasures are not normally just laying around for anybody to pickup off the ground. They are usually hidden and take great effort to locate such as treasure buried in the ground or in sunken ships. It’s no different with God’s treasures. We have an enemy, and he will always surround God’s treasures with an invisible fence to keep you away from them. How does he do that?

The invisible fence that keeps us from the treasure:

Lies and accusations from the enemy
Confusion and turmoil (everybody has an opinion)
Persuasive but thoroughly deceptive arguments
Feelings and emotions (the enemy’s territory)
Fear (we have not been given a spirit of fear)
Religious doctrines (some attribute the things of Satan to God)

You cannot fight what you cannot see! You must be able to see the fence to break through the fence and take hold of the treasure. How do we do that?

1. FaithThese things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33) For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. (1 John 5:4)
2. PeaceThou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3) Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (2 Timothy 2:22)
3. PersistenceAnd he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? (Luke 18:1-8)

Don’t let the tricks of the enemy keep you from God’s treasures. Press in!!!
