Scripture for the Day – February 7, 2020
Isaiah 12:2-3: Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. 3 With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
It is with joy that you draw the living water out of the wells of salvation. Joy represents expectancy or confident trust. It’s the joy that comes from the Lord.
John 4:11-14 says, “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? 12 Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” 13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Nehemiah 8:10 says, “Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” That joy comes from being in His presence.
Psalm 16:11 says, “You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Joy also comes from spending time in His Word, for John 15:11 says, “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.”
It’s God’s will for us to have this joy, for John 17:13 says, “I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.”
Proverbs 17:22 in the International Standard Version says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit drains one’s strength.” Even much of today’s scientific and medical community will acknowledge that there is a direct connection between our joy level and our health and well-being.
I Peter 1:8 in the New International Version says that we should be “filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy” as the result of our faith in Jesus and our love for Him.
Hebrews 12:2 says, “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
We are the joy that was set before Jesus. Let’s keep being that joy and keep dipping from the wells of salvation! The bigger the joy, the more you can dip.
