Scripture for the Day – May 30, 2019
See thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings. (Proverbs 22:29)
The definition of “diligent” is to be constant in effort to accomplish something; attentive and persistent in doing anything. The scripture says that the soul of a diligent person shall be made rich. The opposite of being diligent is to be lazy: The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich. (Proverbs 13:4)
God wants to reward His kids. He wants His kids to prosper and be in health, but without faith that is impossible. But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
Now, let’s read Hebrews 11:6 with the word diligent defined, But without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that is a rewarder of those who are constant in effort, attentive, and are persistently seeking Him.
David was diligent in I Samuel 16:21 which says, “David came to King Saul and entered his service. King Saul liked him very much, and David became one of his armor-bearers.” David had been diligent to watch His father’s sheep and diligent in his worship to God and it brought him before a King (Saul). David’s life was a fulfillment of Proverbs 22:29.
Daniel was another prime example when he was the only one that could interpret the King’s dream.
Therefore Daniel went in unto Arioch, whom the king had ordained to destroy the wise men of Babylon: he went and said thus unto him; Destroy not the wise men of Babylon: bring me in before the king, and I will shew unto the king the interpretation. Then Arioch brought in Daniel before the king in haste, and said thus unto him, I have found a man of thecapti ves of Judah, that will make known unto the king the interpretation. The king answered and said to Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, Art thou able to make known unto me the dream which I have seen, and the interpretation thereof? Daniel answered in the presence of the king, and said, The secret which the king hath demanded cannot the wise men, the astrologers, the magicians, the soothsayers, shew unto the king; But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these; (Daniel 2:24-28)
Diligence to seek and obey God is the fruit of your faith or believing. An orange tree doesn’t have to work to grow oranges. It is a natural process or action that comes from being an orange tree. The diligent actions that come from being a Christian are the fruit of a changed life. You will know them by their fruit. (Matthew 7:16) Diligence should come naturally (or should I say supernaturally) if you’re a true believer.
